Work Station Workout For Your Eyes- Helping To Reduce Blurred Vision And Headaches
Posted on: August 30, 2011
Every year more of us are tuning in to the health benefits of the regular workout. We do cardio work for healthy heart. We do resistance training to build strength, and we do yoga to gain flexibility. But what about our eyes?
With our hi-tech lifestyles a growing majority of us spend our days staring at a computer screen and then when we relax we stare at a television screen. The result is the huge increase in complaints of blurred vision. Headaches are becoming more common and often we look to the simple quick fix of a pill to see us right. This however is a poor short term strategy at best and as with so much of modern day medicine it treats the symptoms without looking at the cause. How can we find the balance, maintaining good vision and still retain our digital way of life?
The following method will help you to relax your eyes while you are at your work station. Place a newspaper clipping 8-9 feet from your screen. It helps if you don't need to turn or get up to see it. Simply glance up to the headline. Read it and return your vision to the screen. Repeating this five times is enough to give your eyes a rest.
Every 40 minutes or so do this speed test. Moving your eyes from right to left as far as they will go focus on an object each edge of your vision. Keep your head facing forward as you do this. Doing this five times for each side as fast as you can will give your eye muscles a real workout and over time will greatly improve your peripheral perception.
The next exercise is another speed exercise but also links to your cognitive skills. Focus on 10 objects around you. The greater the range of distance between the nearest and the farthest the better. Move from object to object randomly bringing them into focus then moving to the next object as quickly as you can. Then name the objects in the order you saw them. This will speed train your eyesight for reaction time.
Giving your eyes this simple workstation work out will keep your eyesight sharp and help reduce the incidence of headaches.
